Take My Apartment, Please!
You may look at this gorgeous Chicago apartment and say “Wow, the tenant must pay a pretty penny for rent”. Not so much. This particular tenant prefers to spend his money on the design elements filling the space, so he sublets his two adjoining one-bedroom rental apartments and sleeps in a coat closet with just enough room for a twin bed. David Hopkins, an interior designer, rented a 1 bedroom in 2007 and last year rented another 1 bedroom across the hall and started sharing the spaces with William Cooper and Aaron Brown. The rent he collects from the two allows him to “live much grander”. Wooden storage units in the basement were torn down to create a hallway that separates the basement into to the library, dining, storage, and contains the huge dining table used for large dinner parties and catering. You just can’t make this stuff up. pb
