Having owned quite a few of these elegant creatures, I was thrilled to see the quite colorful, or sometimes all white, beauty of the Siamese fighting fish or Betta captured through photography. Visarute Angkatavanich, based in Bangkok, began photographing them, as well as other species, three years ago after seeing them at a fish show. To see more of his work visit here.
If you are unfamiliar with these fish there are a few interesting notes, two males should never be placed in the same tank, they will indeed fight, sometimes until one is deeply injured or killed. To see the reaction you can place a mirror outside the glass and they will immediately get in attack mode. They make wonderful pets as they are available in many colors, inexpensive, often under $10, and although they can be added to a freshwater community tank, they are happiest in a glass bowl that gives them just enough room to swim from top to bottom, an overly large container is likely to tire and distress them.
