The King of Cool
The King of Cool was a man truly loved by both sexes, Steve McQueen. Men wanted to be him, women just wanted him. Photographer John Dominis, now 91 and living in New York, is sharing his ‘career-favorite assignments’, he spent 3 weeks with McQueen and shot over 40 rolls of film back in the day. Dominis was one of the most sought after photographers of the 50′s and 60′s. His career includes covering John Kennedy’s ‘I am a Berliner’ speech, Woodstock, the Vietnam war, Nixon’s trip to China, six Olympic games, and the celebration of Buddha’s 2500th birthday for LIFE magazine and has photographed renowned entertainers such as Frank Sinatra, Robert Redford, John Wayne and many more. Now lucky Londoners can visit the “King of Cool” exhibit at ATLAS Gallery through October 27th to view the exhibit. pb
