Getting Down and Derby
24Mar12
It has begun. The countdown to the Kentucky Derby, hosted by our fair city. Although multitudes attend the Derby at Churchill Downs, many opt to host parties in their homes rather than fight the maddening crowds. It doesn’t matter if you are here in the Bluegrass state or miles and miles away, you can prep your home to impress both friends and family. First, let’s get acquainted with the icons associated with the Derby…
- The twin spires of Churchill Downs
- The Infield. Beware all ye who enter. (see Mint Julep)
- Our beloved Thoroughbreds
- The brave jockeys that ride them
- Mint Julep, you may not like them but you have to have at least one then you can switch to straight bourbon.
- The Daily Racing Form (even if you don’t know how to read it, it looks cool)
- Derby Hats, from the silly..
- …to the stunning.
- Red Roses
- Derby Pie and please order the original from Kern’s Kitchen.
